House Speaker Mike Johnson wants to make it harder for members of Congress to defy leadership after members of his own caucus turned on him to force a House vote on the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files.

Despite months of opposition, Johnson is saying he wants to “see a higher threshold” for privileged motions and discharge petitions, he told Axios.

Discharge petitions have long been seen as a Hail Mary; since 1935, just 42 of 673 petitions have received the necessary 218 signatures, according to Axios. Only seven discharge petitions, less than 1 percent of the total, have led to legislation ultimately being signed into law.

We can’t have these bills passing that only 99.8% of Representatives and Senators support.

When the Dungeon master has a bitch fit mid game even though I’m just using the rules he set

    4. The house speaker has more power to block legislation than the president’s veto power. And he wants more.

Is Mike Johnson out of touch?

No, it’s the people’s representatives who are wrong.

    6. Perhaps it’s time to elect a new Speaker of the House… many people are saying.

    7. Gearing up for an impeachment vote where you expect people to break ranks Mikey?

    8. He really is a sad pile of excrement.. When asked about Trump’s death threats, he said attorneys would have to “parse” the language in the criminal act.

Dude, you’re a constitutional lawyer. Stop weaseling out of every reporter question thrown out to you that doesn’t fit your fake narrative.

    9. He wants it harder for people to vote based off what their constituents wants and needs are instead of party politics. Asshat

We need to get Trump, Vance, and Johnson all out of there. Try them for treason we have a million reasons.

Every time an R loses, they want to change the procedure, not their policy position.

It is pretty interesting how after every democratic loss there’s loads of infighting and soul searching about whose fault it was (not a bad thing.) But when republicans lose something they blame the game itself every time.

Amazing how he managed to never look at himself. He had 40 days when not in session to consider the bill. He is the Speaker so he could easily propose amendments or changes. Instead he spent all his time not swearing in a new congress woman and lying about it. The lack of accountability these people have is amazing

Johnson is a menace to our democracy. Time to go. Vote him out as soon as possible.

Sorry, dude, but party affiliation does not mandate a certain voting outcome, and doing something other than what you want is not “defiance.” It’s called *doing their job based on their own analysis.*

    17. I’m still confused as to why in the United States it takes the approval of congress and an act signed into law by POTUS for the details of a criminal case to be released to the public. Especially when the survivors are demanding the release.

    18. Mikey really loves protecting pedophiles. I guess it’s the evangelical Christian thing to do,
