    1. translation: economy is so shit that people are unable to afford the food they want.

    2. In swedish news i read yesterday that grocery prices are coming down ~20% next year, but in the article it said its not the prices coming down but that the people should eat and spend less on food.

    3. I’m buying more chicken and less red meat. It costs restaurant prices to actually get a nice slice of red meat.

Finnish people eat way too much meat anyway. You’re free to stuff yourself with it until your heart is a fat glob and your veins are all buttered up, but you don’t need to eat as much meat as you’re most likely eating – if statistic are to be believed. Lautasmalli is accurate for a reason.

    5. But chicken thighs/legs are approximately on par with tofu price wise? You end up paying for the bones, but with tofu you’re paying for the water, and you can at least make soup from bones afterwards.

    6. I eat more Tofu as I don’t want to eat as much meat anymore. The fact it’s cheaper is a bonus

Tofu is overpriced here as well, don’t pay €3.80 for jalotofu from S or K, get the €1 stuff from Lidl or asian supermarkets

    8. I haven’t had tofu in years since I moved to Finland. Perhaps it’s a good time now. I wonder anyone would be kind to recommend me some brands of it.

    9. This is great news. I eat meat and I agree it should cost much more and we should consume less of it.

    10. I know a lot of people who have reduced meat consumption for health and climate reasons. Once they learn to cook from plant based ingredients, meat starts to look overly expensive. Beans, peas, lentils and different plant based granules also became popular during Covid as self-stable proteins.

I eat less meat but even less tofu, luckily there are other options. It’s just horrible in my personal opinion- which I understand is a matter of taste and totally just that. To each their own.
