Have fun trying to explain why. Technically speaking, even if someone had previously committed a crime and served time, I don’t know if a company like OF should be allowed to stop you. Firstly because in the eyes of the law you are ‚rehabilitated‘ after serving your time, and secondly because technically they’re self-employed and just facilitate whatever their business is through the platform. Why should the platform care if everything is literally above board, right in front of them on their website and they’re not doing anything wrong or breaking any rules?

The only types of people you would maybe want to blacklist because of crimes would have to be some doozies, we’re talking like massive history of scamming, sex trafficking, pedophelia sex offender stuff imo. If we’re talking like, Jim who sold some weed and did time years back, then what the fuck. This just opens a whole other basket, like OF should be judgmental of anyone tbh, like they’re the ‚arbiters of morality and good‘, lmao. Imagine having to sit down in a board meeting at OF and list out the type of criminals that are ‚ok‘ vs. the ones who are not, like what are we really doing here.

The only thing this would be reasonable for is trafficking/pimping. Pedo shit is already illegal so nothing to stop there.

We already make life next to impossible for ex-cons, why are we doing more to ensure they can never be productive citizens after release?

I am assuming it’s because it gives creators a platform to message people directly / receive messages from people directly and they don’t want to put themselves in a situation where they are making money off of someone possibly defrauding people on their app. Although to me, that’s a huge stretch that they would have any kind of liability there.
