There is definitely a wing of Trump populism in the party. I predict their end until they snap back into reality. There are only a small group of people in Canada who are MAGA fans
These guys need to operate in reality. Canada needs a classical liberal party more than a far right party that believes in personal freedoms, free markets, low taxes – you know, more Harper and less Trump.
Ironic because according to the beliefs in some of the base Jamil and Melissa Lantsman are nothing but DEI hires.
I would love to hear more about racism from the party led by the guy who questioned indigenous worth ethic though.
I don’t understand why the policy to judge people based on their merits is so unpopular woth progressives.

Do you think he meant that people of color should be hired over white people?
And shame on all of you white liberals dismissing a black man’s opinion. How is it not valid that it can feel incredibly insulting that you need a special program to rise to the top?

„Canadians of European descent and their children“ is such a dumb way to tap-dance around saying „white people and their children“. If you really believe in „speaking very truthfully and bluntly“ about this, just say that part out loud and deal with the consequences of it.
The irony here is that Jivani himself is a child of a Canadian of European descent, with his mother being Irish-Scottish. Yet he seems to think that „people like him“ are being treated like „charity cases“ under DEI initiatives, not being discriminated against by „Liberal racism“ as he suggest later.
Probably because „European heritage“ actually has nothing to do with what they are complaining about, it’s just skin colour.
Conservatives like these don’t debate and aren’t interested in evidence-based discussion; they have slogans, buzzwords, and platitudes that they shout over every attempt at good faith argument on matters like DEI, trans people, or whatever it they are calling „woke.“ It’s demagoguery to hide the fact they lack substantive policy and continue to peddle trickle down economics/market solutions; that, or, they actually believe the nonsense of the demagogues riling up their own base of voters. At this point, I think the rhetoric around anti-DEI, woke, ect is just a heavily divisive means of attracting wedge voters who’ve been caught up in the sphere of culture war sophistry. It offers nothing for the overwhelming majority of voters other than a tickle for those with a rage dependency.
A lot of this is just a process of providing rationalizations for pre-existing prejudices that exist within the conservative base. They are already naturally against DEI, trans people, woke, etc. People who are already against this stuff will almost subconsciously pick up these arguments so that they can justify their pre-existing anti-[x] position.
The main side effect is that so much of their „arguments“ really dumb down political discourse and often stifle it entirely. For instance, they state that DEI is just racism. There is no attempt to address the underlying reasoning behind DEI; there isn’t an attempt to provide evidence as to whether it is leading to unfair or unequal outcomes. They’ve done the same thing with stuff like „parental rights,“ too. There is not an argument, just blanket statements that are supposed to invoke an emotional reaction from people who feel they are being discriminated against in favour of minorities. It’s supposed to sound upsetting and induce irrationality. There is never even the slightest bit of effort to engage with opposing arguments; it’s just a talking point in lieu of an argument.
