      Well if China switches its diesel trucks to electric, global demand for diesel and LNG could drop big time. Beyond shaking up fuel markets, it would cut pollution, improve air quality, and push forward EV tech adoption

      I like Earth being cleaner than it need to be.

      Electric is the way forward.

      Wild the sort of things a nation can do when it determines to not fuck around then get with moving forward.

      Had a bit of that here in the US post WWII but, then all these monied interests dug in, put progress on hold then eventually shipped innovation overseas. Anymore, we stand by doing nothing, watching as the world passes us by.

      Passes us by and leaves us behind.

      Yay.

      But the one time environmental cost of an electric truck is marginally higher than the one time cost of a diesel!

      If you only compare the Day 1 environmental cost of the vehicle, these things are terrible for the environment!

      I’m no expert by any means but why not install chargers at distribution centers where trucks have to stop to load and unload their cargo?

      Seems like that might help with some of the concerns about increased down time due to charging taking longer than filing up with gas

      Battery EVs are inevitable. Not to „safe the environment“ or anything but simply because it is a superior technology that constantly improves. Combustion engines are stuck and simply a dead end technology. When was the last time that they significantly improved in any meaningful way (efficiency, emissions, noise)? EVs and batteries on the other hand are getting better all the time.

      I don’t even think any legislation outlawing combustion engines is necessary or useful, they will eventually just be replaced by this more advanced technology anyway.
