It’s all generative AI has directly managed to do at scale, and it’s been a clear net negative.

It became an antisocial wasteland when it started delivering content by algorithm, which was already delivering you slop with extra steps. AI just opens the slop faucet even more.

Social media just isn’t fun anymore. I just have group chats with friends now.

I just told an Omaha steaks bot how I’d like to remodel his data center using a pressure wave traveling at roughly 3000 m/s and it was therapeutic

Showtools on TikTok has taught me a little about identifying AI. I was looking at this video of a woman leading all these cats across the street and it had to be AI. I looked for the tells but it was really good.

It looked like it was a dashcam in a car at a crosswalk, so the whole bottom was static. No blurred watermark that I could find, and things looked anatomically ok except some cats were holding their tails funny. And cats aren’t going to act like that.

I couldn’t tell for sure, so went to look at the profile and it said “AI creator.” Lol. My hunch was right, but it’s crazy how good it’s getting.

    6. Hot take here. I love it. Why? Because I no longer scroll that much.

For some reason knowing this has freed me up to instead listen to audio books, read and play guitar.

I don’t miss it. It was never good content, but something about know its slop has been life changingly good.

So all the happy people are finding content they like, leaving behind the miserable ones, is that what we are saying here. xD

The low point for me was when an AI image on Facebook showed Blue Jays announcer Buck Martinez lying sick in a hospital bed with players Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette sobbing at his bedside.

It was completely tasteless, considering Buck has been fighting cancer (though was on the air the last couple months of the baseball season and for the playoffs)

Ironically, AI slop might cure social media addiction. When the feed was curated by humans, it was engaging. Now that it’s 90% hallucinations and weird generated images, the FOMO is gone. It’s much easier to close the app when you know you aren’t missing anything real.
