It’s ok our mighty navy will defend our waters guided by our powerful radar sensors and if that fails we get our new president to mail in the keys to Aras and the country to our new overlords

I’ve an idea. Why don’t we put a few Ukrainian lads in one of our patrol boats, hoist a Ukrainian flag temporarily, for training purposes like, show them the combo to the ammo stores and see what happens?

see this is the kind of headline that pisses me off

we need to have a Navy capable of dealing with shit like this now whatever the UK Navy would do towards this Russian spy ship

we need a Navy capable of doing that ourselves

    5. Separate_Noise_8 on

The ship is “designed for gathering intelligence“

No sense in the Russians stopping in the North then

Wait until they get a load of our fancy new binoculars.

      That’ll tell them what for…

This is becoming the new normal but hey we’re neutral and uninterested (or is it disinterested?)

This is why Ireland needs to seriously increase defence spending and get a proper Irish Navy in place to defend our waters from Russia.

      Just for balance
All the while NATO do the same, decade, after decade

So the Russian ship is actually currently just outside Scottish waters, so of course the UK are involved are monitoring.

Thank God we’re neutral, otherwise we might have some issues /s

Edit: had to add the /s because I forgot irony is dead.

Their headline begins to breakdown in the first sentence of the story goes from Irish Waters to „Irish-controlled waters“, I don’t know how the IT is predicting Russian military movements.

Coming to raid our monasteries no doubt.

There’ll not be a jewelled chalice or ornate manuscript left in the country if we don’t stop them.

    14. What an absolute joke.

Ireland has a massive western seaboard with the entire Atlantic there. We need to suck up our lies and have a massive base on the west coast.

I always remember it being said: „if Hitler had been successful against the UK then Ireland would have folded and he would have controlled the entire North Atlantic.

We cant be so flippant as to what we have.

Ireland needs a better army. It’s a bit sad that daddy uk has got to protect the state.

      ‚Bitter is the wind tonight

It tosses the ocean’s white hair

Tonight I fear not the fierce warriors of Norway

      Coursing on the Irish sea’.

Seems like NATOs problem. We should be funding housing, healthcare and education.

    18. Its the Exclusive Economic Zone, so russian vessels, whether military or not, can enter it. Just like british vessels (military and not) enter russias EEZ

And once again the Irish “military” is cowering in fear behind the RAF and Royal Navy while they prepare to do the dirty work. Genuinely embarrassing how far we’ve let this “but my neutrality!” business go. Can’t even suggest further increases in the DF to modernise our fleets to deal with this exact situation without being called a warmonger which in itself is completely doable despite the neutrality bashers relying on the argument of “we’re useless no matter what”. There isn’t even any logic behind the argument anymore.

“But I thought neutrality meant everyone would leave us alone!!”

Are there any real users in here? I feel like these comments are identical to the last time Russia sailed by as they are free to do and we were flooded with NATO bots.
