We have candy flavored nicotine pouches now, so the kids don’t have to sneak a vape anymore. Try to keep up grandpa.
Cigarettes were also a problem in schools once and we made it through without shoving CCTV cameras into bathrooms.
Hot take: they are absolutely vaping off campus too so they are ingesting nicotine anyway what’s the point of all the spending all this money?
Meanwhile, schools are short on computers and staff I like nurses I always hear that they can’t hire nurses

Using „protect the children“ to put surveillance equipment in bathrooms is pretty dystopian considering my generation in the 80’s and 90’s smoked in high school bathrooms, exits, the woods beyond the schools, the train tracks, that area around the HVAC equipment…
Like, I can think of a lot more misuse for cameras in a bathroom than for some moral crusade BS.

hall monitors, teachers that aren’t overworked, safety officers in the school, these are the things we need. not a GD camera that a teenager is going to immediately cover with a wad of wet TP.

I don’t think these monitoring/detecting system are going to work.
How about we don’t do surveillance booms anymore… Jeez, follow kids on phones, follow kids on their PCs, surveillance is not good for socialization. Kids (and Adults) need to develop in healthy environments, with their own privacy doing whatever they want.
Sounds like they should just accept it, stop it when they see it, but otherwise let it be.
The alternative is to waste time stopping kids from becoming adults.
The school has to monitor and take action against vaping because its the law. A teacher was arrested a few months ago for merely doing nothing when kids would vape in her class. It’s a stupid law but its there, and schools have to follow it.
Don’t smash the fucking cameras or sensors. They will just get quickly replaced by the company, most schools have service contracts with their IT equipment where the vendor will just replace broken equipment with no extra charge. Your efforts will be forfeit.

Our school has vape detectors. Kinda like a smoke detector. Eliminates the need for cameras. Just one outside the bathroom to track who goes in and when the vape detector goes off. Works well

The new detectors they put right by the doorway of the bathrooms at our HS are amazing. Has brought vaping way down, since kids dont really want to get suspended.

Pouches have gained huge popularity making it easier to get nicotine without getting in trouble. I had to hide my big box vape back in middle school and high school. Even these new vapes are still hard to hide but people are hooked on the pouches as well some are 30+mg per pouch. I got nicotine sick off a 12mg pouch which is crazy because I’m a heavy vaper.
Why do the vape detectors have microphones? I think most people wouldn’t object to an air quality detector if there was no mic.
We need regulation around this shit rather than surveillance. We don’t need more people addicted to nicotine.

I remember in my high school days, we often had 2-3 guys in a stall smoking from an Apple or a small pipe. We also used the bathroom to take bumps and hit the air duster. This isn’t something new, however… putting cameras in the restroom is going to give pedophiles another avenue to get to children. This is just sick shit!
Kids are going to be kids, they’re going to rebel. Let them be, they will find another way to do what they want. I’m against vaping, it is what it is. However, I’m extremely against cameras in the restroom.

There are already solutions for this. There are sensors that detect the certain chemicals in vapes and will alert administration as to where it is. No AI, no cameras.
Doesn’t this come down to the parents though? How are the kids buying these when you have to be over 20? And if they are buying online, why do kids have credit cards? I guess those temp debit cards exist.
