Belgium has trouble holding itself politically. How is it supposed to be held together with Netherlands and Luxembourg? And why would Luxembourg join when it benefits from being a microstate company escape
And what does that mean for the condition of the roads in Belgium and the Netherlands?
Many Dutch people wouldn’t want this and I imagine an even bigger % of Belgians wouldn’t want this either.

Honest curiosity: given the today state of things, with Benelux and EU granting for decades basically almost total freedom between these countries, what would actually be the differences in declaring one single country compared to what they have now? Especially if we don’t consider stuff like changing the kings and queens or bureaucracy.

Could anyone familiar with the three countries describe some main differences and similarities between them, and if there’s any broad consensus on which country is „best managed“?
So, within a couple of days, we heard proposal for a revival of the Italian protectorate in Albania and for 1815 Netherlands. Weird timeline
it took 195 years to work this plan out and now its finally time.
I don’t see this happening. For 1 what benefit does this offer that isn’t already present by being in the EU? 2 Belgium is a basket case of a country. They have far too many governing bodies and they can never agree on anything. Why would The Netherlands want to invite that into their political system, that currently works quite well. 3 Luxembourg is extremely wealthy due to being small and in charge of their own affairs. (So they can be a tax haven.) Why would they give that up, by joining a larger country when they already enjoy all the benefits with none of the downsides?
I have no opinions as to whether or not this should or should not happen. I just think it would be interesting to see.
The questions are:
A. Of the three monarchies, which one do they stay with? Or will Benelux be a Confederation of Monarchies with a Republican president?
B. To avoid religious and linguistic tensions. Will the Confederal Republic of Benekux have English as its official language and will it be secular?

We ditch Brussel and declare the entirety of Luxemburg THE new EU capital.
Honestly I wouldnt mind as a Dutch citizen. There is alot in common and the language isnt a issue, we can consider belgium to be just another dialect 😆
However I dont think luxemburg would want to join, they like to be their own little(rich) country.
Besides the many similarities, integrating would still be a challenge. However it can be done, it was done a few centuries ago as well until the belgiums wanted their own independance.
Great idea. Pathway:
1. Belgium reduces its national debt to the Dutch level and increases its pension savings to the Dutch level.
2. Belgium brings its infrastructure to the same level as the Netherlands.
3. Belgium cuts out all levels of government and will have only provinces and municipalities.
4. Belgium brings its army up to standard.
5. Belgium abolishes its royal house.
6. We start by unifying the top football leagues. Then the national teams. We ask Pep Guardiola as our coach.
Then we can start negotiating unification in the new capital city of Den Bosch.

Belgium is such a political mess that I really wouldn’t want to combine that with the slightly more manageable mess of the Netherlands. Maybe fix that first.

Tbh, I feel like a Federated Europe would have far more countries as larger states get broken up into smaller voting provinces that would have seperate members in the EU Parliament and increase direct voter impact on the EU. While the old nation states might still exist in some way on paper (like the British Commonwealth) they’d have far less, if any, actual political power.
On the topic of political fragmentation. The European union becomes stronger in worldwide politics the less amount of members there is, because it makes the EU’s position more firm as it’s less divided.
The solution would be to have some unifications. This one would be the easiest to achieve.
Could we just please dissolve Germany and join this, too?
As a proud Belgian, this just means civil war.
Let’s not stop there, we need a European Federation. Maybe not today, but the sooner the better.
