More than 40 percent of electric car drivers worldwide would avoid owning a Tesla, the brand run by controversial billionaire Elon Musk, for political reasons, according to a recent survey
More than half of electric vehicle (EV) drivers — 53 percent — said they would avoid certain brands or countries of production for political reasons, the survey showed.
More than 26,000 electric car owners in 30 countries were queried on behalf of the Global EV Alliance, an international network of national electric vehicle driver associations.
When asked to specify which brand or country of production they would avoid, 41 percent of all EV drivers named Tesla, 12 percent said China, and 5 percent said the U.S.
The survey was conducted in September and October.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk was almost inseparable from U.S. President Donald Trump as he headed the cost-cutting „Department of Government Efficiency,“ but the pair later fell out bitterly over government spending plans under the Trump-led budget.
Musk has also made headlines by supporting European far-right movements, criticising diversity policies, and making a gesture many observers interpreted as a Nazi salute.

It’s not a bad car, but it’s also overpriced compared to the competition, at least here in Canada .
Of course, even if all else were equal, I’m not buying a car from a Nazi

The remaining 59% is worrisome? I do think that if Tesla divorced itself from Elon, completely, it is the best path forward for the company. I’ll stay in the 41% until that happens and solely for political reasons.

Only 41? That seems low. I wouldn’t accept a free one

There once was a time that I actively wanted to drive a Tesla. My next car will definitely be electric, but will definitely *not* be a Tesla.

Tesla was only on my list, because I was sure they would fit the budget, but they were always only the last resort. Exactly because of this. And it was like this for since ever.
Same reason I want to avoid Chinese brands as well. Plenty of good European brands are available.

I loved the cars. Fully bought in on the tech and whimsy and how it drove and the no-buttons and everything. I owned a ’19 Model 3 and a ’21 Model Y. After Musk went full MAGA we traded both in and will never consider a Tesla again. Fuck that man and his companies.

We literally would have bought a tesla but because of the nazi crap, we got a different EV.

Can confirm, Elon made me decide to not even look at another Tesla.
The fact that I can’t get into it in the winter without a *not even kidding hammer* if I park outside and that the tablet that controls it is 5 years outdated are among the many reasons I wouldn’t have bought another one in the first place. Elon just made it an easy decision.
