This tidbit is very interesting in that a Liberal mp said they were trying for a majority via floor crossings rather than bartering for the NDP demands.
Other things in the article which were rumored yesterday were correct (NDP decided when Elizabeth may agreed to vote for the LPCs budget that they were going to have 2 mps abstain, and the CPC had those 2 mps ready if needed to abstain).
However Blanchets comments come off extremely terse in terms of disregarding the liberal government.
I’m not surprised. Both the NDP and Liberals got torn in half last round for working together, which sucks. I may be a more blue Liberal but I would choose to work with the NDP and Greens over the current Conservatives any day. Much easier to find middle ground. That said, I get why negotiating wasn’t possible. The NDP basically voted against the budget and the media was trying to make it like they propped up the government. If Carney worked with them too much, the media would have torn him in half for it too.
The Liberals would rather have Conservative floor crossers than appeal to NDP voters or negotiate any of their demands. Erskine Smith was right, this is a Progressive Conservative budget, one that could have easily been introduced by Stephen Harper.
