Ok but when will we get the *actual* files where Trump’s name isn’t scrubbed

    2. I should look this up…but someone might know here.

I know that a presidential veto can be overridden with a 2/3 vote after the fact. But…can it be preemptively made to be unveto-able? If it is near unanimous, then it’s already shown to have enough support to override a veto. Or do we still go through the whole song and dance?

edit: Ok apparently this is a hard question to understand. I’ll attempt to rephrase…

Is there any circumstance in which the president CAN’T veto a bill?

edit edit: turns out I’ve found an even worse scenario…a pocket veto. If Trump lets it sit untouched for ten days, it’s effectively vetoed and can’t be overridden if Congress is adjourned. Knowing Mike Johnson, this is something he’d likely make happen if it’s within his power.

How difficult would a near-unanimous House vote make it for the Senate to ignore?

    4. BlotchComics on

Trump said he wants the files released…

Remember a few years ago when he said he could declassify and release anything he wants?

Surprisingly, he was pretty close to the truth on that. He doesn’t need to wait for a congressional vote.

Let us not forget to shame Troy Nehls (TX-22), who *still* has this X post up.

      > I’ll be voting NO on the Epstein Hoax.

      >The Democrats are using the Epstein Hoax to distract us from the winning of President Trump and his administration.

      >My message to my Republican colleagues: Don’t let this noise keep us from delivering on the mandate the American people gave us.

      >President Trump—I stand by you in the fight to save America. I’m not going to let this hoax, manufactured by Democrats, slow us down.

    6. „The bill, however, bars Bondi from withholding, delaying or redacting material “on the basis of embarrassment, reputational harm, or political sensitivity, including to any government official, public figure, or foreign dignitary”.“

Bondi ain’t going to pay attention to this, if she pays attention to anything voted on.

This leads me to believe that Trump’s name has been scrubbed or replaced with Biden’s name. This will pass in the House, but stalls in the Senate or Trump will use the excuse of there’s an investigation ongoing and the files can’t be released again. I’m sure his taxes are still being audited too.

Whoever votes NO is going get ripped! Rightfully so! Peace for VG🙏🙏🙏

    9. Suitable-Peanut on

Too bad all the hard drives and photos and recordings from Epstein’s vault „disappeared“ in the couple days it took to find the stuff and then come back with the correct warrant to retrieve it.

    10. Stereo_Jungle_Child on

Everyone in Congress is backing the release now?

That’s exactly how you can tell that they’re either: Not going to actually be released or the files that will be released will have been altered to be meaningless.

Otherwise, there’s no way they’d all agree on this.

    11. Yeah, call me when the Senate has those numbers to remove a veto.

Then release the actual files. I don’t think they exist anymore.

    12. rapidcreek409 on

All of a sudden, everybody agrees about Epstein. The GOP can read election results and polls as well as anyone else, when they choose to do so. But, the fun one will be the Senate, where all but two Republicans voted not to release the ffiles in the past. Democrats will force a roll call.

    13. And I’m sure the next minute, Pam Bondi will come out a that since there are Democrats under investigation, the files can’t be released. Or some other BS.

    14. QuantumSporck on

My shithead congressman, Steve Womack, had a sudden “family emergency” and will not be voting. His office won’t return emails and he refuses to publicly support the release.

His office even tried hanging up on me when I asked for his official position. They just said “he values transparency”

I hate these motherfuckers so much. Going to do everything possible to end his career.

    15. It doesn’t matter at this point, they’ve covered it for too long. They’ve:

      * Said it would be released in entirety
      * Said it didn’t exist
      * Said it did exist but was a Democratic hoax
      * Said they did the investigation and there was no list
      * Said there is a list, but the Democrats are the only ones on it in any damaging way

Trump and his administration, which has no regard whatsoever for dignity, respect, or rule of law all of a sudden is unanimously voting to release these after months and months of delaying and misdirecting? These files aren’t going to say „Trump fucked kids“ because they won’t let it. We need to force this issue, because *we’re* the ones who want it released.

Not sure if it will ever come to this, but I think the only way to get Trump out of office is for a large enough group of people to general strike until he’s held accountable by his own party. Until then, us slaves should hurt their profit margins in the only way we can.

    16. Gop doing everything they can to save their bacon come midterms. Do they finally ditch Trump? Or are they banking on the DOJ taking the blame for the redactions and keeping some files back.

    17. WeGotBeaches on

Look, we’ll split the difference with Trump. Release the Epstein Files with ONLY his name redacted.

    18. Inevitable-Spirit491 on

Of course, the executive branch can withhold any files that they deem pertinent to an ongoing investigation or that they claim executive privilege on, so passage of the bill won’t assure a full release at all.

    19. Isn’t there some sort of international crimes Epstein’s name comes up with Trump? We need to find a source of the tie that’s not held on to like the dirtiest secret of all time. A nation that is willing to give up the documents without redaction.

    20. Is there any time line to when we get the result from that vote?

I’m not an American. But it love to know when the vote is taking place.

    21. ATrueRiverMonster on

Is there any realistic possibility at all, and I do mean at all, that the GOP actually sees this as a possibility to rid themselves of Trump. Like assuming still there is a level of corruption, selfishness, greed and general terribleness, maybe there are enough of them who aren’t monstrous criminals and also realize the dangers that Trump represent and this is their ticket out of his ride.

It provides the bonus of a) not pissing off the base via impeachment. AND b) allows them to make themselves look like they care because they all vote for the release.

As to Trump supporting the release, I don’t necessarily buy all the talk about the fix being in. I think it’s like when a little kid is digging his hole deeper while lying. „Fine release the files. I have nothing to hide.“ Hoping that the appearance of innocence stops any further investigation. If it was because the fix was, why wouldn’t Trump come out with that stance much earlier.

    22. substandardpoodle on

Why in the fuck does anybody have to vote on releasing evidence of criminal activity. What the hell???

It’s like some news anchor saying “Today we may find out if Jeffrey Dahmer ate people. We’ll update you when the Senate votes this afternoon! Until then, he’s a free man!”

    23. SaltyZookeepergame46 on

Bondi reopens investigation so nothing can be released allowing all republicans to vote yes to release so they are in good graces with history and voters. We will never see shit

    24. ChefChopNSlice on

I’m sure the version we get will have literal white-out all over the names, with the names “Obama” and “Clinton” stamped over them.

    25. Am I the only one seeing the performance going on here?

Seems to me that the only reason Repulicans would suddenly en masse flip their talking points is because the files have been either so heavily redacted nothing is knowable from them or they’ve spent the time of all of the previous delays deleting Republican names and mentions from the files. So, when they’re released, expect a purge of democrats that are „shockingly“ the only names released.

It’s not like this regime has had any qualms about hiding or deleting valuable data, previously.

Trump regime lesson number whatever: don’t count your chicks before they’re hatched. There’s no level of corruption too far for these people.

    26. DesastreUrbano on

It’s gonna be 2 pages with „JEFFREY EPSTEIN“ horizontal in the biggest font possible

    27. WhisperingHammer on

Inagine the surprise when the edited files show ONLY democratic names.

    28. thegoodnamesrgone123 on

If that’s the case you know the only names in there are Democrats.

    29. CreakingDoor on

Either they’ll find a reason not to release, or they’ve finished scrubbing them.

Or they’re just so brazen and so convinced of Trump’s personality cult that they think it won’t matter.

    30. thermothinwall on

republicans probably feel safe voting for this because they know their names, their donors and their friends have been scrubbed

    31. RomanticNyctophilia on

Thats because what will be released is scrubbed of all the republican names…..but we still know.

    32. WaitUntilTheHighway on

I can’t wait to see a bunch of tampered-with files! Yay for corruption at every level of Trump’s government!

    33. Shadow_Breaker on

If the full unredacted files aren’t released that is the end. Because this has implications far beyond our borders. Several very powerful people are in those files, and they have killed people to keep them from seeing the light of day. If they aren’t released in full there should be a general strike until they are. Shut the whole thing down.
