Ahmed Dine Dine is a temporary foreign worker who works at a fast food restaurant. Not sure why this wasn’t included in this article but feels relevant to this conversation. We should crack down on companies that abuse TFW’s but this doesn’t mean they should get citizenship as an apology.
It’s amazing to me as an American seeing which issues are provincial issues and which ones are federal issues. I like Canada’s parliamentary system much more than the the US democracy era’s presidential system but I think the US federal-state relationship was better.
Immigration was one area like this, but also the interstate commerce clause. Milk could be sold in the same container size in all fifty states and you didn’t need to take your car to a mechanic to make it meet safety standards when you move from California to Texas. States couldn’t interdict truckloads of potatoes grown in another state transiting their state.
why do foreigners/ temporary residents think they have a right to citizenship in Canada? i sure don’t go to Paris expecting a housing allowance and EU citizenship
Another win in a long string of pro-citizen initiatives in Quebec.
I can only hope that Ontario follows suit. In my jurisdiction, foreign ’students‘ occupy all retail and service positions, and TFWs occupy all jobs in industry. Meanwhile, our unemployed rate is 10% and 20% for young Canadians.
Absolutely shambolic to continue propping up our economy through immigration and housing. Glad we punished Trudeau for this misstep, even happier that the issue hasn’t quite fallen out of the limelight. There’s more that need be done.
