Hamas and other Gaza terror groups rejected a US-backed UN plan to create an international force that would demilitarize Gaza.
They say disarmament harms their “right to resistance” and that any foreign force violates Palestinian sovereignty.
The UN is set to vote on the plan, which is part of Trump’s broader Gaza proposal involving a ceasefire, an international stabilization force, and an apolitical Palestinian administration.
Israel insists Gaza must be fully demilitarized first, and Netanyahu says this will happen “the easy way or the hard way.”
If I recall, Trump’s plan already expected Hamas to refuse. If that happens, reconstruction would only begin in areas not controlled by Hamas.
If Hamas won’t disarm, it’s unclear whether any international force would even agree to deploy, since they could face attacks from Hamas or get caught between Hamas and the IDF.
In that case, Gaza might stay divided between Israeli-controlled zones and Hamas-held zones, with fighting continuing on the Hamas side.
Okay. So Hamas are explicitly rejecting the terms of the ceasefire they agreed to? Back to the war, then?
So Hamas wants to be able to attack Israel at will, but wants Israel to not be able to defend themselves. Who really believes that these people can be trusted with a state?

Not shocking. Hamas was never going to want to give up their power and will have to be forced.
And it isn’t clear if Trump has the will, the attention span, and the leverage on Qatar or Qatar the will and the leverage on Hamas to get them to accept a stabilization force. That was always going to be a requirement here.
Iran’s water issues may stop them from funding Hamas in the near term, and there may be a real chance at some agreement with Trump. So maybe there is still a slight chance at peace here if Qatar and Trump and the Arab world can get on the same page again.
To the West this is a security problem. To Palestinians letting a foreign force police Gaza feels like another erasure proof they have no agency in their own story.
And to Israelis Palestinian resistance justifies more security. You’re not breaking that loop with a stabilization plan.
