When I was there, my senior year someone copied and pasted Wikipedia for an essay and was expelled for plagiarism.
Nullifying a midterm is nothing. Expel the cheaters. They broke the honors code and the pledge they all take when they enroll and again at the beginning of each semester.
Cheating hurts everyone here, because grades are not absolute, they are scaled. So only X% gets an A, Y% get a B, etc… In one of my classes, 80% was a D. Cheating makes it even more difficult for these kids who are honest.

That’s what happens when you get lazy and instead of holding in-person exams, you do them online.
What did they think would happen?
Figure out ways to test students that aren’t so subject to cheating. Long answer and essay questions take more time/effort to grade than multiple choice, but you can also use AI to check for AI-generated text. It wouldn’t eliminate the problem, but it would at least show they were trying to combat the problem.
