He can say these things, but the fact he still hasn’t picked up his order of Canada, and his behaviour at international events, distinctly say otherwise.

I don’t think Gretzky identifies strongly with being Canadian, but to be honest, I don’t really care. The way Canadians really want to be able to claim celebrities as their own is odd to me, and Gretzky lived in the USA for more than half of his life now.

It does seem like he’s willing to identify as a Canadian when he feels like it, so that part makes me not really like him, but i don’t particularly think Gretzky has any insight into patriotism, or politics, so I don’t really care too much what he thinks.

To me, two things stand out in this article.

      1. Trudeaus‘ humanity. The fact he reached out privately to Gretzky. Irrespective of your politics, that’s class.

      2. Just how tone deaf Gretzky is. Actions count. Even small ones and he just seems to be ignorant of that.

In the end, he’s rich enough not to have to worry about. But I certainly won’t be buying Gretzky wine or spirts. I will leave that for his American friends….

    4. Who gives a fuck. Guy was good at a game that he retired from 26 years ago and doesn’t even live here anymore. Shouldn’t be celebrating people like him in the first place.

Gretzky has shown that his only identity is being apart of the wealth class. However because he gained his wealth through being Canadian. It’s a major part of his brand. He only is clutching to Canadian identity now because without it, he could lose all of his wealth & access.

Two things I know about Gretzky: he was a good hockey player and he’s not a good Canadian.

It sounds like his Publicist finally talked him into trying to address the backlash but for me the damage is done. You can’t be a Canadian and buddies with someone who has stated they want to destroy our sovereign nation.

None of his recent actions are those of a Canadian, I couldn’t care less what his words are saying. I’ll reconsider my stance if he apologizes, speaks out against MAGA and threats to our sovereignty, and moves his business and personal lives back here full time to contribute to our nation’s coffers. It’d also help if he does something like donate to some meaningful Canadian charities, or in some other way shows that he has a basic understanding of what being Canadian means.

That’s where the bar is for me, that’s how I feel he can assert that he’s Canadian, and anything less than that only serves to affirm that he’s not one of us.

    8. Dude – said nothing in support of Canada or Canadians while went around wearing a maga hat and licking boots of trump !

      You made your bed !

    9. Ya, now your running, what is happening to your „good friend“? Now it’s time to say your Canadian? Sorry bud you’re judged by the company you keep. Go back to Mar-Lago and continue playing with your orange buddy.
