      Well seems like the majority of Christians who have left Christianity became atheist

      In my bubble nearly everyone left the church when their first letter demanding church tax arrived. We were just not religious, but had been baptised as this was kind of the cultural norm when we were babies.

      This chart shows the percentage of religious in various religions. It doesn’t show the percentage of the population that is religious.

      I severely doubt that even a third of those „christians“ are actually practicing/believing christians, it’s just culture christianity, i know for a fact that here in Denmark nearly everyone is baptized but they just do it because „thats what you do“

      The numbers are being kept artificially high

      I’m not being forced to pay a tax. Can still identify as a Christian whether it shows up as a statistic or not.

      I would like to see how many of them make life choices based on religion.

      I have a feeling that most people in Europe under 50 doesn’t really care about religion. They just saying they are part of some religion, because that’s how they ware rised, but it has no impact on thier lives, and it’s just a tradition (like weddings etc).

      If I’m not mistaken, Romania and Greece are the EU’s least secularised countries. Coincidentally, they are also among the most conservative and homophobic. Not to mention that both countries struggle with corruption, nepotism, clientelism, and generally poor governance – what a strange coincidence, isn’t it? Honestly, I can’t wrap my head around why, after so many decades, these countries still haven’t aligned with the EU in terms of mentality, especially given that we’re in the 21st century.

      The drop in Christian population is among other things because people now identify as religiously unaffiliated to avoid paying a church tax.

      Education will destroy religion over time. Christianity and Islam the same.

      A difference is that traditional Christian countries are more educated on average. This will change, for instance the increasingly poor American education system.

      How do they count Christians however? For example I was baptized and did my Confirmation, but I don’t consider myself a Christian and never go to church (unless it’s for sight seeing when I’m on vacation or something).

      So do Europeans pay taxes to the church , if they are Christian?
      In the UK , churches collect directly from their members , and fund raise.

      En France, les statistiques ethnique et religieuse sont quasiment interdite, question d’égalité. Il me semble que la loi a évolué un peu récemment.

      Un sondage de 2012 donnaient 37% de croyant, 34% de non religieux et 29% d’athée convaincu.

      Si on regarde les catégories du tableau, il faudrait mettre 63% de non affilié.

      I am surprised that 2/3 of europeans define rhemselves as religious (believing in any god).
      Me personslly i don’t know anybody who’s really religious/believer- but i guess it might be just my bubble…

      The number of Christians is grealty inflated by people who have been baptized and exist on official church records, but who actually don’t believe in god or attend church. What one might call cultural Christians.

      What is my evidence for this? During confirmation camp (A lutheran passing rite that makes you a full member of the Church. Most Finns attend it at 15 as a cultural norm.) I had a task to attend mass on a regular sunday, and i kid you not there were like 10 old people there. This was at the main church of a city with 25 000 people, out of which at least 20 000 are officially Christian.

      As people become more and more intelligent or perhaps educated their understanding of the world increases, Things that were once unexplainable are now understandable. We now know that a child who develops a disease does not need prayers but medicine.

      Religion is a practice that’s eventuality is power, the more people that believe in a specific religion the more power the leaders of the religion will have whether it is influence or money these are desirable for the leaders.

      Christianity is the most parasite riddled religion and is effectively just a business at this point with the amount of money ‚pastors‘ try to siphon out of the people that attend or believe. People can see this and the devoted eventually wise up and leave.

      Many people are leaving just because they don’t need as much support to understand the unknown and support is accessable outside religion and many methods aren’t going to treat you as a piggy bank.

      Muslims will continue to thrive as the value they hold dearest is influence and they are often migrants and need a support network that is easily available to them through religion, their mosk’s are far more about socializing and support rather than raising funds for the mosk.

      Christian churches are focused on making money, they have been incredibly profitable and have been known to own significant portions of land and businesses around them and use a charity loop hole to avoid paying tax which gives them even more power, which people are realizing more and more which pushes them away from the religion especially when their parents and older family members who wouldn’t have had the same resources and support networks growing up pass and no longer influence the families decisions.

      I’m unreligious but grew up with loose christian values and celebrations, most of my milestone birthdays were held at a Christian church, but even the church was really just ran as a business for making profit.

      Ateist is in a rising number,, but not on the list,,,but also is not a Religion,, But there are millions of Ateist Hidding in that list,, under a Religion, people dont dear to stand out,
