A lot of my husband’s friends (he is French) told him he was ‘way too young’ to get married. He was 26.
His dad was I think 21

Worse thing is that male loneliness is also increasing.

As a Spaniard I will say that nowadays marriage is not that common. But that doesn’t mean that people aren’t together as a „married“ couple. My own parents aren’t married and they’ve been together for more than 30 years.
Also it’s very expensive, so people that can afford it are more likely to be older.

Yeah. Like women. People are marrying later than they used to on average.

If you’re not religious there’s no point to marriage. Just move in together or something.

I think it would be this way in the US, if our healthcare wasn’t tied to our marriage and jobs.

And now show the graph of generational wealth by age.

A lot of Nordic countries have a tradition of just not legally marrying until later due to expenses which also screws these stats. It’s also around 30 when they get settled.

People are more immature now. Eternal adolescents.

all these lines climbing almost in parallel kinda tells the whole story – it’s not “people don’t wanna marry,” it’s “people can’t afford to be adults before 30+.” housing, wages, job stability – pick any

Politicians keep create insane laws and regulations that only makes the taxes raise and for consequence the costs of life.
Also, there are so many laws to protect children and woman that makes marriage be the worst contract a men can sign.
Then the people stops to marry and the children per woman drops and you have the audacity to feel surprise.
You all are funny.

If you invite as many people as your parents would expect to, you’ll be burning 30k in one evening. Assuming a salary of 2k per month (10€ per hour), it’s spending 7.5 months of two people working full time. Just for a few hours. It’s just not as cheap as it used to be.
It’s money that can go towards housing, investment or maybe a kid.

I would love to see data on how long they’ve been with their partner when they got married as I suspect that has also gotten larger

Data is not beautiful. Data is deceiving. Newer generations are just cohabitating and not marrying. This the raise.

This is the women, make no mistake. Probably do to social media and the need for more or better. Men trend towards marriage at younger ages as a whole.
Edit: I’ll keep this up, because I absolutely know I’m right. Women set the trend.

I am sure makes me in the minority on Reddit, but I think this is a trend that makes people’s lives worse. I can maybe see an upside delaying marriage as late as the values shown in 1990, but being single sucks. Delaying marriage to 35+ is not an effective strategy for a better life.
We should be trying to break down the barriers to people getting married in their 20s. Things like reducing housing costs and getting jobs for more young men.
