Die argentinische Regierung stoppt den in Zusammenarbeit mit China geplanten Bau eines 350 Millionen Dollar teuren Radioteleskops

In October, *The* *Wall Street Journal* [reported](https://www.wsj.com/world/americas/the-u-s-is-trying-to-drive-a-wedge-between-argentina-and-china-e4551dd7) that Scott Bessent had spoken to Argentine economic minister Luis Caputo about cutting China’s access to the country’s natural resources. This appears to have been triggered by China’s [imposition](https://www.wsj.com/economy/trade/china-imposes-new-controls-over-rare-earth-exports-35a4b106) of restrictions on new rare earth exports, which have since been [suspended](https://www.nytimes.com/2025/11/07/business/china-rare-earth-export-controls.html). 

Earlier this month, Milei’s government [decided](https://www.infobae.com/politica/2025/11/04/el-gobierno-desactivo-el-polemico-proyecto-de-china-para-instalar-otro-radar-de-vigilancia-espacial-en-la-argentina/) to halt the construction of a $350 million dollar radio-telescope that had been planned in collaboration with China on Argentine soil. Given the U.S.’s previous [concerns](https://www.newsweek.com/chile-reviews-china-space-observatory-project-newsweek-investigation-2045792) over the expansion of China’s network of space observation radars in Latin America and the timing of the announcement, it seems probable that the Trump administration would have influenced this decision.
