Obvious how no one persona wants to subsidize data centers water or power use. I personally dont want to pay for the privilege to something that generates only a mere handful jobs onsite and service contracts for all other affairs.
Of course there is going to be opposition. They use more power than the cities they’re next to. They use more water and waste water and cause more emissions. They use fossil fuels for power. There is going to be a gigantic pushback…AI might be the downfall of a cleaner Earth.

Meta is building one right now in Beaver Dam WI and the citizens just learned who is behind it. This is after months of construction. They were never even asked for their opinion. Everything was just finalized and agreed upon without so much as a memo to the people living here.

Make life worse by increasing bills, destroying the environment, constant noise… cmon that sounds awesome! Why would anybody not want to live next to one?
My county in Indiana wants to put 2 in that’ll use a combined 14 MILLION gallons a day. Our largest municipality 20k+ people uses 30 million a month. Our power bills are going through the roof and our county commissioners don’t give a shit.
