    1. The continuing trend of declining sales has inspired Tesla to get into the rental car business. According to Electrek, these are genuine short-term rentals of three to seven days, not long-term vehicle leases. Prices start at $60 a day, and go up depending on the model and how well-equipped it is. However, Supercharging is included with all rental cars, perhaps to demonstrate that charging and range anxiety aren’t as bad as people think they are. „Full Self-Driving (Supervised)“ is also included, which could be a plus or a minus depending on your point of view.

The end of the $7,500 tax credit gave Tesla a nice sales boost with 497,099 vehicles in the third quarter of 2025, a 7.4% increase from the same time last year. But that was a positive blip in the otherwise downward trend of Tesla sales worldwide. Potential trillionaire Elon Musk’s politics have cost Tesla over a million U.S. sales. For similar reasons, sales in Germany have dropped 50% since last year, China’s sales have dropped 35.8%, and Cybertruck sales are in the dumpster it resembles, down 62.6% from last year. As a result, Tesla has a lot of cars it hasn’t sold, and they aren’t likely to sell quickly now that the EV tax credit is gone. Renting them out like Hertz seems like a way to make at least a little bit of money from the inventory on hand.

The regret for approving that ridiculous pay package is already settling in. /s

    3. I would have thought EVs would be bad as rentals because they have poor resale values.

Nope. Still have not gotten too close to any Tesla deathtrap let alone got in and rode around. Not interested.

There is a gawd-awful ugly Wankpanzer ‚truck‘ in my neighborhood that looks even uglier in person.

      From the article:

      >and Cybertruck sales are in the dumpster it resembles

Chef’s kiss to that line from the reporter, I tip my cap to you Mr. Hughes.

    6. I’m confused. If their sales are so bad how come they offered Musk such a huge package? If anything he’s hurting their sales and image.

My brother and I are that demographic where we can afford Teslas and used to own them but would never again be associated with that brand. I would say that is true for most middle aged former Tesla owners who care for the well being of our planet. There are now so many other reasons not to buy that brand, it’s ruined beyond belief.

      My standards are pretty simple:

      1. I would love to buy an electric car.
      2. I will not buy a Nazi car.

There’s still tons of new models fresh in the streets… It’s pretty obvious some people like giving n@zis money.

    11. I see MAGA types and for some reason a lot of people from India driving Tesla’s here in N.J.

    12. Who knew throwing what “looks” like multiple nazi salutes would impact sales.  Especially when most EV customers are left leaning.  I wonder if this scenario will end up in a book similar to “Information at the Speed of Stupid” which is something I had to read in college.

Went to a mall last night and there were probably 200 black model y parked in a corner of the parking lot. Sales must be pretty damn bad.

“Why are sales declining? Our flagship is a non utilitarian meme truck, our most popular vehicle is a 5 yr old design. Our second most popular is 8 years old and our flagship luxury model is a 15 year old design. Don’t People want innovation anymore!?!!!?”

IMO, $60 a day with supercharging included not bad for renting – Suresh Alokam

I’m sure that trillion dollar pay package will motivate Musk to right the ship…
