Just where I expected USA to be. If I say it, people will give a myriad of other reasons and downvote me, but the reason it’s higher than many developed countries and many other developing countries like India too, is because of a simple thing. It’s because Americans have access to a tool that kills very effectively. GUNS. If we heavily restrict them, and put a lot of checks, and ban most types of guns, then it will drop for sure.

Why does the Philippines have such a high murder rate?

The contrast between Syria and Iraq is interesting, because it seems that the former is so low only because their violent deaths are still being counted as war casualties.
Meanwhile Iraq is mostly peaceful now, but it still has some lingering sectarian violence from the last wars, which gives it a high murder rate.
I assume that at some point Syria’s murder rate will spike, once it is not considered to be at war anymore.
