See, we eradicated the domestic Polio but forgot to address „free range“ Polio
And it took analysis of German poo to make that sentence plausible

It’s never easy to eradicate germs completely and here’s a good example.
And sewers being what it is, a great breeding ground of all sort of who knows what.

Most likely someone from somewhere got the old style polio vaccine and traveled to Germany, only if Germany doesnt use the old style vaccine. The old style vaccine you can shit out live polio virus. Some African nations have this problem because its a weakened version of polio in the vaccine and not a truly inactivated variant

For those confused, the polio vaccine has the polio virus in a live yet weakened form. In regions with high populations of unvaccinated persons, the virus will rarely infect an unvaccinated person leading to circulating vaccine-derived polio, which is prevalent in many countries.
Wild poliovirus, however, is what is found naturally in places where polio has not yet been eradicated and is not descended from a live attenuated vaccine.
The wild poliovirus likely came from an unvaccinated person who recently travelled to or visited from Afghanistan or Pakistan which are last two countries where wild poliovirus is present

>The WHO said later on Wednesday that the new wild polio detection in Germany appeared to be associated with the strain circulating in Afghanistan.
It sounds like it was probably carried in by someone, or a community of people, from Afghanistan. And before this turns into a racist debate about immigration, let me say some of my favorite people are Afghani immigrants: incredibly smart, hard working, and a big benefit to the Berlin community. Get your vaccines if you haven’t yet!

Were bringing back the Iron Lung. Best part is with it all but eradicated, doctors don’t know how to spot or really treat it.. But seriously, if haven’t been vaccinated for it, get it.

Sewage monitoring has become aa very important part of public health.
We are bound to have it yield new information. Attempting to glean info only from clinical reports is far less comprehensive.
