Men and young men being disproportionately responsible for most crime/abhorrent behaviour is not a new phenomenon. It’s actually been a much bigger problem at other times and places and the differences between those times and places and our own are largely differentiated by an acceptance of women’s rights and equal role in society, won’t stop a lot of dunning-Kruger trained experts from assuring us that the solution is actually the problem.

      >a community effort to make sure young men in particular are heard, seen and listened to

There are real social ills described here and we should be looking for solutions, that solution is no simply to to revert to the traditional chauvinism which was common in an error when male violence was a much larger societal concern.

FTA, “The survey found that 39 per cent of Canadian men between 19 and 29 reported a violent impulse when getting angry within the last month, compared to 16 per cent of all Canadian men.

Boston said it’s important for young men to develop ways to deal with their anger before an impulse turns into action.”

Having the occasional violent thought isn’t “problem anger”. Actually being violent is problem anger. Another useless sociological study masquerading as something valuable.

How do psychologists in 2025 not understand that humans have all kinds of thoughts they don’t act on?

People need therapy, and these dudes need help, not girlfriends. They need to learn how to slow down, make friends, and learn how to be wrong. We live in a society that punishes men for showing their emotions, which also expects women to do the same in the workplace, but outside of it they’re okay to be emotional. Men have zero clue what their emotions mean, they don’t have any idea how to process a singular emotion and it all just kinda turns into anger of some kind. Because Anger is treated like it’s not an emotion, it’s just how men are.

Challenge the norms, learn, and grow as a person. Find what being a man means to you, not other dudes, and if you end up discovering you’re not a man, that’s also okay.

Reposting it here since the other thread was removed

    4. Jamil Jivani has [written a book](https://www.amazon.ca/Why-Young-Men-Crisis-Identity/dp/1443453196) *validating* that anger and is on a speaking tour [to foment that anger and frustration into a movement](https://www.politico.com/news/2025/09/17/jamil-jivani-young-men-conservatism-00570050). Contrast this with[ Jagmeet Singh’s interactions with hecklers on the hill](https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/ndp-jagmeet-singh-parliament-protesters-video-1.7326073).

Now is the time for someone to raise this concern and *address it as a national need for therapeutic services*.

    5. The best thing we can be doing as a nation is investing in education and quality of life upgrades for our citizens. The anger and despair people are feeling threatens us all to varying degrees

Not ideal, but I’d want to know how that compares to past cohorts. This is presented as part of some sort of trend, but I would assume young people are more prone to violence than older people _in general_.

Whenever I see this stuff I think about the contrast between how “older woman gives advice and guidance to young girl” and “older man gives advice and guidance to young guy” stories are now viewed in society.

The thing I so often see with younger men is they absolutely lack regular, healthy contact with any *normal* male role models in their lives who aren’t their fathers. We have very little association or community life anymore, and the idea of an older man taking an interest in the wellbeing of a boy he isn’t directly related to is considered deeply suspicious in a way it didn’t used to be.

I totally understand that a big part of this is because a number of horrible abuse cases in the church etc, but I can’t help but feel like we’ve thrown the baby out with the bath water trying to correct for this and basically left boys alone with Andrew Tate instead.

Of course boys are having trouble regulating their emotions, the people who used to show them how aren’t there anymore, and instead it’s just adult babies on social media who never learned how to be a man either.

    8. Well no shit, you baby them until real life hits them after they graduate and they don’t know how to handle real life

    9. Maybe it’s partially because whenever someone tries to help men and focus on issues unique to them, it is typically viewed with extreme suspicion by women to say the least. Feminists don’t like it and do whatever they can to malign and/or stop the effort. They would rather men stay broken, because F those pathetic losers or something.

    10. Social media and other media sources sending them a steady supply of „doomer“ messaging probably fuels this fire.

I see comments daily on Reddit where people think that they will never get ahead in life because there has been an avalanche of „news“ stories feeding them this narrative. It’s like a form of indoctrination similar to people that consume FOX and other right wing news continually.

News, news media, social media is brainwashing people, for profit, and most have no idea it is happening to them.

This is not an interesting or unexpected result. If you’re *surprised* by the fact that young men are disproportionately likely to have violent thoughts and impulses, you simply have a terrible model of the world that you should probably get to work on fixing. Ditto if you think the reason for it is „not enough therapy“. The reasons why young hormonal men have a tendency toward anger and violence are so obvious that anyone who alleges not to understand them is immediately discrediting themselves.
