And to think it was the last time where a third party had more electoral votes than one of the two main parties is really interesting

    2. Poor Taft. Guy was a pretty good President, but all anyone remembers him for is being fat and losing the election because he was betrayed by an old friend.

Socialist nominee Eugene Debs won 6% of the vote but no electoral votes.

    4. Because of the split, Wilson had the 6th best electoral performance of a non incumbent, after Washington 1789, Reagan 1980, FDR 1932, Monroe 1816, and Eisenhower 1952. Yet Taft was the biggest incumbent loser in history, even worse than Hoover.

Pretty interesting that wilson won the same way that Clinton did. The right and center split their votes leading to a Democratic landslide but with pluralities everywhere

Teddy was a great president, but I don’t see him keeping us out until 1917. I think his warhero status would have made him send a lot more than be on the cautious side, and he would have won again if he had won this.

Maybe Zimmerman and the unrestricted sub warfare was the only reason and it would never be before 1917 regardless.

Being a roughrider and as passionate as he was about horses, I don’t know if he’d be as adamant about the tanks as Wilson.

It’s insane what air conditioning did for the population of various states. Florida was less populous than West Virginia and Nebraska then. Texas was half the size of Pennsylvania and New York.

All three candidates were Presidents at one point. And one got stuck in a bathtub
