    1. Adelita Grijalva’s swearing in on Wednesday will make her Democrats’ newest member in the US House of Representatives, but it’ll also officially set in motion lawmakers’ effort to force a vote on a measure the White House has fought for months: a bill to compel the release of the Jeffrey Epstein case files.

After her 4 p.m. swearing in, Grijalva is expected to provide the 218th – and final – signature needed on the discharge petition to force such a vote and, in turn, trigger a number of procedural steps before the House can vote on a bill compelling the files’ release.

As a refresher, a discharge petition is a critical tool at rank-and-file members’ disposal. Under the arcane procedure, if 218 members of the House – a majority of all 435 districts – sign one, they can force a floor vote in the chamber on anything — even if leadership opposes it. Such an effort rarely succeeds.

This is the Mueller report all over again. Great for media clicks and nothing of consequence will happen because Americans are cool with corruption

    3. 1. Nothing. This is America, the rich and powerful don’t see justice or consequences.
      2. It is actually 4D chess to an unprecedented level where the shutdown was ended specifically to swear her in because they have something going on to use the files as a means to get rid of Trump.
      3. If you think it is number two, please be on the lookout for my pet pig, she flew over the fence again.

Everyone always forgets this part. They think Grijalva is the savior and will be very upset when it doesn’t happen.

“The effort, should it pass the House, would still have to pass the GOP-led Senate and be signed into law by President Donald Trump, who has derided the effort.”

    5. They’ll release a completely redacted bunch of documents that the only readable words are “the”, “and”, and “Clinton”

    6. Just remember, 218 signatures does not equal 218 votes. Someone will back out.

Nothing. Even if Trump was emblazoned on every page nobody would care.

That’s how messed up the American political system is right now.

An unexpected fire happens next. Or some Ollie North figure starts shedding documents.

    9. There is ZERO chance that the Trump White House, Trump’s handpicked sycophant Attorney General and Trump’s handpicked sycophant FBI Director haven’t already disappeared every part of those files that have Trump’s name on them. ZERO.

      STALEMATE!

The right will say one thing and the left will say another, both will accuse each side of faking parts of it and it will end in a stalemate. They have already ruined it and any chances of justice.

    11. The deal to open the government probably involved flipping moderate DEMs to not vote on the release or something

    12. missmachine777 on

I won’t be surprised if, after months of talking about how there are 218 votes for releasing them, there won’t be 218 votes for doing so when the time comes (someone changes their mind at the last minute).

    13. I think some of the Republicans that are part of the 218 jump ship and vote no

They close the house for the rest of the year to avoid a vote to lower insurance premiums.

I’ll give you a sneak peek. Nothing will happen. Literally nothing. We will never see these files if Trump is still in office.

Something Something, underage women, Something, something, shouldn’t ruin a man’s life. Something, Something she’s doing it for money and attention, Something Something it was different time, let’s move on.

    17. Maybe it’s worth it to get peoples names on the record for not wanting it released?

    18. Captain_Roastbeef on

We will get a heavily redacted document that gives us no answers. They will claim nation security because it has powerful people in it from foreign governments.

    19. Oh, oh know the answer!

One of the Republicans or one of the dems will take back their vote and get a million bucks or something for their vow to protect the pedophile president

    20. Underpaid23 on

      Nothing.

They refuse to release it. It plays out in court. They use the time to find an obscure law written in 1790 that allows them to overturn it and not release them.

It’s about time!! So many things are working in Democrats’ favor right now. Plenty of people are turning on Trump, but if you want Trump’s white supporters to turn on him, the Epstein files must be released. Trump will finally be seen as the way he needs to be seen—a narcissist who never gave a shit about anyone, not even his own supporters.

Rural areas will be competitive in the 2026 midterms. Even districts rated R+20 could be purple. Deep red senate seats could be competitive. Democrats will have the opportunity to win the most house seats and senate seats in almost 50 years. The Democrats had large majorities in Congress during the Carter administration.

    22. This is an important step in attempting to release the files the traditional way. When it fails in the Senate, or when Trump vetoes it, that’s when the victims themselves can release more information and anyone who possesses the files can leak them.

If the info gets leaked before that time, Republicans have more leeway to impugn the validity of the info and condemn the releasers. Republicans can claim that they would have willingly helped to release the info if it had simply gone through the proper channels.

Instead, they’ll ~~look much more hypocritical~~ confirm their complicity in the cover-up (EDIT: strengthened language) when the releasers can show the world exactly what it is that Republicans and Trump did everything in their power to keep as just „another wonderful secret.“

      Two things:

      – It will get blocked, silently.
      – Silently, because we’ll start a war with Venezuela to knock it out of the news.

    24. The smart move now would be to rename the bill the „Presidential Recognition and Immense Support Effort“ (PRAISE) Act, so if it squeaks past the senate, Trump will waste no time in signing it.

    25. At least now that Congress is returning, we will start getting to see guys pressed on Trump’s obvious involvement in Epstein’s sex trafficking crimes.

    26. kind_user47 on

They’ve altered the files by now. No way we’ll ever see any real documents.

    27. StraightOnion1967 on

Even if there is a vote to release the files my prediction is there will be no consequences for anyone. If Trump is shown doing something nasty with an underage girl, he’ll deny it was him and maga will claim it’s a hoax
