I live at the latitude of the southern shore of Hudson Bay 👍

It’s really not that surprising if you know anything about the climate of Canada’s west coast, or indeed the climate of west coasts in general.
We need to end this idea that east coasts or continental interiors are inherently the more „correct“ climate for a given laittude. Apart from just being inaccurate, it also screams NAdefaultism.

This is making Canada feel a tad bit smaller as a Brit.
I Imagined the distance between Lake of the Woods and the Hudson Bay to be further—like two or three Great Britain’s.
I guess the Mercator projection tricked me.

Just goes to show that a surprising amount of Europeans live further north than the majority of Canadians

This is wrong. Northern Ireland is above the 55th parallel, and Glasgow is above the 56th parallel.

There are two Londons in Ontario?!

It’s not right though, it’s been done in quite a drag and drop fashion.
The British isles have been shifted roughly 1 parallel too far south in this map.
50th parallel just shaves the very southern tip of England. Northern tip of Ireland is just a smidge north of 55th Parallel.
Interesting idea, poor execution.

Many commenters are saying that the British and Irish climates are milder because of the Gulf Stream ,but that’s not the main reason.
It’s because they are to the East of a large water mass and prevailing winds in the mid latitudes are Western winds , which are mild oceanic winds for Western Europe but cold Continental winds for the East coast of N. America.
You ought to compare Great Britain and Ireland to British Columbia and you’ll see their temperatures are pretty similar.
Edit: to the people downvoting, compare the climate of Western Europe to the Pacific Northwest and the climate of the East Coast to the Far East of Russia, Korea and the coast of China and you’ll realize they are pretty much the same.

Without allowing for the longitudinal differences this really is pointless.

You should move it to the west coast of North America for a better comparison.

Being no expert in how climate or weather works, I have often wondered why London doesn’t get as cold as winter as us Canadians, even the southern ones.
