Well, we have a very strong contender for the first place in the „instant stroke map from instagram“ contest.
The horizontal „latitudal“ line in the conic projection map is definitely something.

You don’t think of Spain being as far North as Chicago, but then you see a map

Shows nicely just how north Europe is. It sounds kinda odd that Belgium or Poland are fully north of the US-Canada border, yet it’s true.

49th is the border with Western Canada but it goes as south as the 42nd parallel in Ontario, which is more in line with Rome or Barcelona.

According to this map Canada wouldn’t be north of the 49th parallel, since it isnt *entirely* north of it

There is a Outdoor equipment (hiking, camping, etc) retail chain in Dublin.
Its called 53° North, after a few years I learned the reason for the name is that Dublin sits 53° North on the 53rd Parallel. Genius name IMO

Always remember that the UK gets much less snowfall than Canada, despite being on the same latitude, thanks to the gulf stream!

On my list of reasons to never visit America, I can now add „Probably too bloody hot.“

Europe is warmer because the Atlantic Ocean spins counter clockwise (as does the Pacific). This brings warn water from the Equartor up to the British Isles. But in Canada, it brings cold water down from the Arctic. Think icebergs and the Titanic.
It’s the opposite on Canada’s West coast, which is why BC is the warmest part of the country. Yes, this is the gulf stream, but I thought I’d explain what that actually is.
Bonus fact: Ottawa and Montreal are on the 45th parallel, and more than half of Canada lives below that.

The lowest point of Canada (an island on Lake Ontario) is at the same latitude as Barcelona

Most Canadians live at the same parallel as Spain or Italy. If the ocean ever quit keeping Europe warm they’d end up living like Manitoba or Saskatchewan, it’s hell here lads, take care of the planet for your own sake.

My house is around 55deg north in Scotland. Fairly sure that’s 2 degrees north of Edmonton in Canada, and probably north of 99% of Canada’s population.
