unfortunately constitutionally protected free speech has never applied to private property. it only gaurantees the government cannot control speech in publicly funded areas (even tho they alwayss have like having “free speech zones” etc). i dont understand why no one or group of any persuasion or ideology ever pushes to expand constitutional powers. force private businesses to follow the bill of rights

Disturbing the peace is a catch all charge cops throw around to get around free speech arrests. I should be able to yell, „fuck the breakfast drink people“ and throw my money on the ground if I want to. With no legal trouble, difficulty speech is what needs protected the most.

Disturbing the peace laws has been a thing in the United States for a long time. How is any free speech dying when a person who yells „Fuck the Jews“ to someone and then throws coins at them gets charged with disturbing the peace?

It has been. Both sides of the political spectrum are to blame because they both suppress it and have been. IMO, it started dying in like 2010. The 2000’s was a lot more free with what you could say, you were actually allowed to offend people back then. The 90’s was even better.
