      I’m sure there won’t be any negative repercussions to the level of generational inequality

      Certainly young folk won’t be radicalised towards the political extremes by it.

      And even if they were, what harm, it’s not like we’re not in the midst of a continent-wide rearmament.

      gen z will hate on the millenials.

      There isn’t a more selfish voting group anywhere. The future is grim, imagine trying to sell anything other than more and more pensions when half of the electorate is 50+

      Surely it’s not the oligarchs that are at fault. You don’t get paid to write about that, do you?

      Talk about demonising people in your own population. Do we really think that people born in a certain period are somehow different than others, or those others won’t end up voting/ behaving in the same way when they reach a certain age? How narrow minded.

      That’s what everyone seems to be forgetting: Europe is old. And the average old person is conservative and scared. Scared of change and scared of all things different. 

      I think it’s a big factor in the growth of extreme right parties.

      Young folks usually are radicalized, that is how age works. You are terrible person if you are not communist on 20 and you are idiot, if you are not conservative on 40.

      It’ll vary from country, but in the UK millennials are the single largest generation, but they don’t vote in the numbers that boomers do. Politicians won’t kowtow to millennials until they start voting in serious numbers.

      Boomers are the largest generation meaning they are the ones starting the trend of not having enough children . The pinnacle of selfishness is to benefit from a system but not doing your part . They know they are the last ones to get anything worthwhile and they are ok with it .

      Covid-19 for us us what WW1 was for that generation. Old people in society and government sending young men to their demise in the Somme while preaching nationalism at home.

      In 2020: old people hoarding all the vaccines and resources, sacrificing our careers and lives, while preaching solidarity. A solidarity that, like most things in our society, flows only in one direction.

      Right now the crisis of the day is pensions, so they will throw our hard earned money at it and call it a day, but in ten years the crisis would be all about care homes, no amount of money will compensate for having to change the diapers on someone who ruined your life.

      Tax the billions of quantitative easing money printed in 2008 and in covid times. Enough trying to make ordinary people hate each other. Bring down inflation by taxing wealth or it will be used to buy everything and we end up in a feudal autocracy. It isn’t boomers, it’s Billionaires.

      We should weight votes by age. I hate it that 60+ people defide the fate of younger generations.

      Can’t read the article 🙁 I suppose it’s is about the baby boomer leading in the vote.

      But… Is it really a bad news? The younger generations are more and more radicalized: the first party in germany under 45 is afd, same in Italy with fratelli d’Italia (well they turned out to be a moderate right in the end) and so on.

      I’m afraid after the baby boomer dies we will deliver the eu to the far right which didn’t end well the last time we did that.

      Definitely not in Lithuania. First of all, no one is using these stupid english terms to describe different generations here, second, so called Gen X, Baby boomers, Silent Generation had to live through poor and repressive Soviet occupation regime under Stalin, Kruschev, Brezhnev, Chernenko, Andropov and Gorbachev, there were no private savings or pensions, only meager state pension, 90s, early 2000, were no better for those who were near pension age or above it. By 2026 the median pension will be less than 50% of median Lithuanian salary, so around 600€ neto, which is very hard to live on even in small city. Old people don’t live privileged life here, they didn’t have good financial time before and barely having it now, but young people do, most high income earners are among very young people, higher saving and disposable income is also among young, many of young people without high education after joining EU had/has opportunity to leave Lithuania for richer Western/Nordic countries to make very higher income. Probably similar story in other post-Soviet or post-Socialist countries.
