Sure it’s simply because they’re in open spaces where teenagers could hang out and often left to their own devices?
Because the teenagers dont give a fuck and have been raised on the glorification of being a roadman
They make it sound as if there was a dedicated crew travelling to places to torch playgrounds that needs to be stopped. While it’s just something that happens all over the place with depressing regularity. Torch a wheelie bin, torch a car, torch a playground, destroy a pitch, torch a clubhouse. Not like it’s going to end up in any trouble for you or the fam.

Because the little scrotes know that there’s almost no chance they’ll be caught for it, and if by miracle they do end up in court over it there’s an even smaller chance they’ll actually face any consequences.

Gardai are investigating why playgrounds are being destroyed. Maybe they should check the last season/year/eon there was a visible patrol in the area? Just a suggestion.
Bad parenting and a lack of policing and consequences is my bet here.
It is not a new phenomenon, playgrounds have been vandalised by scrotes on and off for years now.

Busy work for someone to do for a while to investigate this? how bout step outside a station and ask the first person you see, they’ll tell you why it’s happening, has happened for decades and will continue to happen

There is no ‚why‘ beyond lack of consequences. Sake reason it is so frequent to hear about those doing similar when caught and questioned as to why, basically just being able to answer with some variation of „dunno“.

There is a culture among some people in Ireland of not respecting your own surroundings, some people believe basic rules, respect or just general politeness don’t apply to them, and instill that attitude into their children and then we wonder why little toerags run around.
I’ve done a lot of travelling, there’s scumbags everywhere, but I’ve never seen anything quite like making your own area unpleasant quite like in Ireland, the amount of times I’ve seen some sort public amenity and thought „We couldn’t do that in Ireland because someone would destroy it“.
Could be playgrounds be fully fenced off and locked for use between certain times. It won’t stop all vandalism but it would be a deterrent.
No consequences for teenage troublemakers. It’s easy to blame the parents, and sometimes it’s their fault, but it’s also difficult when your kid falls in with a bad influence.
until there are real consequences for the scumbags that do it, Irish society will keep going down the drain. They know they can get away with it and if you have parents who dont care it compounds it
If a party campaigned on this, they would get into power

It has to be something cultural both here and in the UK. There were teenagers doing this crap in both places when I was a teenager 20+ years ago and the culprits were from all different economical backgrounds. Guys from my class destroyed an old medieval wall near us „just because“ they also used to put rocks and batteries on the train lines in the hope to derail the train and they practically melted a bus shelter when they doused it in petrol and set light to it. All of this occurred before phones and social media were a thing. There’s no record of it. It didn’t even make the local news.
10 years ago when I lived in Drogheda there were people setting fire to things there too. The paper mill, Donaghy’s Mill, the two thatch roof cottages, the civic offices and the boardwalk spring mind.
My own kid is a teenager now and hates how many people in their class would be happy to do shit like this and would most likely willingly film it.
I actually do not understand it but it has always been an issue for as long as I can remember.
Can almost guarantee the parents of the little shits doing this spend most of their time blaming immigrants on Facebook
Mindless vandalism and leading a zero consequences life go hand in hand.
Grew up in the 80s and it was an issue then and always has been
Imagine you are 12, from a poor area, your family have nothing, parents are absent / drunks / whatever, and you and your friends realise that you could effectively be a career criminal for the next 5 years or so and then have the slate wiped clean. All the shit you don’t have and feel like you will never have, you can just go take because of the way we deal with juvenile crime.
You will never really face any consequences at all. You can rob money, cars, bikes, shops, anything you like. You can mug other kids, adults. You can attack and assault people, just be sure not to kill them. Start collecting those youth remprimands the justice system uses instead of anything useful.
What an incredible world for the youth. Absolutely innoculated and immune to consequences for 99 percent of crimes, and you and your mates all know it.

Also lack of punishment and Garda and society willingness ti implement that punishment
