    1. Europe should help shoulder the risks. Belgium shouldn’t be offered up as cattle…

Ah yes that old chestnut the EU loves solidarity just not the kind that involves sharing any actual risk. By all means let’s confiscate €140 billion but make sure Belgium alone foots the legal bill if it all blows up. Nothing says UNITY like throwing your smaller member states under the bus.

Why not just pay the money to Ukraine from EU funds outright? If EU ist willing to cover a potential Belgian lawsuit in full let’s just skip all the steps inbetween and jump right to the end.

That way Euroclear’s reputation won’t be tarnished, Ukraine could fight on and everyone’s happy.

Except for those who favor virtue signaling over a common sense solution.

And yet Belgium is content to ask it’s neighbours to protect it from (likely Russian) drones invading it’s airspace.

Don’t fall for the game Europe is playing here. They have no intentions of subverting one of the foundations of their system: property.

If EU wants to use that money to help Ukraine then they have to satisfy the Belgians that it is safe to do so, and any risks must be spread throughout the EU. I think they know that. But they haven’t acted on it yet and so the negotiations are in limbo, for now. But I expect there will be resolution later this month. There has to be. There is too much at stake to let this slide and to do nothing.
