    1. Built from millions of vessel positions recorded across the world’s busiest seas. The glowing arteries reveal how goods, fuel, and food pulse through the continent every hour of every day.

And now the Shipping Forecast, issued by the Met Office on behalf of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency at xxxx today.

There are warnings of gales in Rockall, Malin, Hebrides, Bailey, and Fair Isle

I thought the Danube was navigable. Well, you learn something new everyday.

Does anybody know specifically why there seem to be these dark spots where maritime traffic just doesn’t go in the gulf of Bothnia? Specifically in the Kvarken archipelago(maybe due to safety or risk/reward considering there’s not much around?)

I was also wondering about the sea east of Turku: Jesus Christ that archipelago is absolutely insane. Apparently it’s the most intense/biggest archipelago in the world. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archipelago_Sea](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archipelago_Sea)
I absolutely get why everybody avoids the fuck out of that.

    5. Really cool visualisation. I’m wondering why the seas around Denmark and southern Sweden are so busy though compared to more heavily populated coastal areas? I thought Antwerp and Rotterdam in particular would stand out even more

Surprisingly high amount of traffic in the western black Sea. I thought the war would put a damper on shipping in that region.

    7. Took me a moment to understand that this doesn’t display any seas and oceans.

Yeah but each one of those are just a thousand ships with a billion tonnes or tons or metric tonnes of filthy sailors right? Port to port, you know. 🧐

Why is there random orange blotches in the middle og the ocean? Eg between Iceland and north Norway. There’s ships sailing around in circles there?
