The issue of Hungary is not just the price. Of course Russia, as monopolist is getting insane profits. The issue, and the reason Russia is monopolist is the limited access. What alternative has Hungary? No sea. The only major pipe comes from Russia. There is alternative pipe from Croatia, but it needs huge investment to replace Russian oil for the entire region. Thanks to Bulgaria at least now there is alternative for the Russian gas.
Orbán doesn’t want anything cheap or even for a reasonable price, even the loans he takes for the country (something even the EU takes advantage of) are stupid expensive and the country can’t afford most of them in its current state, but he’s a very prominent supporter of the scams run by oligarchs to make each other richer.
