    1. But, but, Canadians dislike Poilievre…..

Further proof Canadians were duped by the shiny new leader of the LPC, the sad part is though, despite winning plurality, the LPC would most likely still end up winning due to a poor showing from NDP again.

    2. Interesting. I don’t buy that the Conservatives would win an election with Poilievre today, that polling seems like a big outlier. But he fares better than basically every Conservative in the country. I’m particularly surprised that Ford does worse, as despite my feelings about him being bad at his job, he has big everyman appeal and is a remarkably skilled politician.

But the biggest takeaway is it’s not the Conservative voters that would turf Poilievre, it would be caucus and possibly donors in the smoke filled room.

The issue with this poll is that the Liberal number is relatively stable in all of those examples (6% spread) but there is definitely a correlation between rising unknown and lower Conservative numbers. This suggest to me that it’s more that many Canadians either don’t know or don’t have an opinion on some of these other people, not that they would do worse in an election if they spent a couple years –> campaign as the party leader. For the Harper number, I think it’s safe to say that Carney’s Blue Liberal appeal will bring in some Red Tories. The only thing this tells me is that there isn’t an obvious replacement for Poillievre not that he is best fit to run for them in the next election.

It should be noted that the survey was conducted from oct 24-29, before the floor crossing and resignation. Results may be different now.
