    1. And every political faction will interpret this so that he is talking about whatever the fuck they are pushing.

Either this is about immigrants ruining everything, or racists ruining everything, or pro-EU people ruining everything, or Brexiteers ruining everything, or young people ruining everything, or the French ruining everything…

I can’t even imagine going through what they went through, an the result is a bunch of self entitled brats running around thinking the world owes them without putting anything in themselves, and by that I don’t just mean the classic blame the gen-z for everything.

I think every vet that died, is rolling over in their grave out of sheer pain. this is not the kind of freedom they fought for, or gave their lives for

    4. I saw the clip used by far right trolls who try to frame it like the veterans complains about migration

But he is talking about freedom

    5. No offence to this guy, but the NHS didn’t even exist when he fought, neither did the minimum wage, people still died of polio and childbirth. To say things are worse now is to give in to the populist rhetoric.

    6. It sucks that this man’s words are going to be twisted by far-right groups into pro-Nazi, anti-immigration bullshit

Yeah we would definitely be better off with the entirety of Europe being under Nazi rule, or worse, the UK being under Nazi rule. What a moron.

oh come onnn, of course the world changed so much from WWII until today. With technical advances and transformation of political concepts, the world we have today is completely different from what anyone could have wished for 70-80 years ago

    9. He fought for the right to have opinions and share them. Doesn’t mean all opinions are valid.

    10. Most British people watching this know exactly what he means. Our grandparents would have thought the same.

    11. arealuser100notfake on

Did this man specify what exactly he perceives worse with freedom today?

    12. Trash. Flat, obvious trash. Get some old dear out in front of the cameras, stick a few medals and patches all over and drop a poppy on top to seal the deal… and suddenly skepticism and rationale thought are considered disrespect. FUCK THAT NOISE.

    13. Lady Chatterleys.lover was banned in his time, as was social mobility, free love the list of historical oppressions goes on etc

    14. I mean, he fought in WW2 against fascists, so it’s pretty clear what he means. He wasn’t vague at all, unless you’re being deliberately obtuse.

Yeah no mate, veteran or not you’re dead wrong. It wasn’t worth fighting the Nazis because what? Trains are shit? Or migrants? Or NHS waiting lists? Absolutely dead wrong. Fuck the Nazis, for all it’s flaws our future is far brighter because they were defeated.

    16. BREAKING: Old person thinks life was better when he was young. What a shock!

    17. OhMy-Really on

Best that they ask him to clarify his point on what exactly is the issue, before its used to promote just about Anything

    18. The right will go wild with this. The same right who want to „go back“ to a time that didn’t exist, and the closest to that was the most socialist government and policies the UK ever had only to be ruined by Thatcher, and then somehow the left is to blame.

    19. I respect him but I even more respect my forefathers who didn’t fought for ‚freedom‘ but for the truth.

    20. I despise stuff like this being used in any way. The definition of “freedom” back in the day sure as shit wasn’t “free” either. So why are clamoring over this? Was India free from British rule in 1945? Fuck no. Was South Africa? Fuck no. So can we for once stop posting this stuff? “Freedom”.

Posted in another sub Reddit but it’s equally valid here.

This was 1 person, and their experience, out of millions. What they say means no more, or shouldn’t have any more power than anyone else. Being a WW2 veteran doesn’t mean your opinion is any more valid or „right“ than anyone else’s.

The fact people are trying to take something away and attribute some sort of higher meaning to it is stupid.

    22. Every single regard in this comment section is proving his point. I don’t care what side you’re on.

    23. Plurfectworld on

Old people turn bitter, fall out of touch with current times, and get mad cuz they lost all there power

    24. Ok. So? What gives this guy any credibility in his assessment of the state of the UK?
