Der Haushalt von Mark Carney wird Kanada zur stärksten Volkswirtschaft beim Eurovision Song Contest machen

> In his prebudget address to students at the University of Ottawa, Mr. Carney warned that „to seize this hinge moment, we will have to make tough choices.“ He did not signal then that the tough choice would be whether Canada opts for a Maritime-style folk song, or something more along the lines of Montreal indie-pop. „We used to take big, bold risks in this country,“ he said. „It is time to swing for the fences again.“

No, Canada will swing for the fences by reaching for the microphone. Canada strong. Canada free. Canada in Eurovision.

We need to sacrifice planting trees. We need to sacrifice 40,000 public servants. But let’s throw money at Eurovision.

I have to agree with the author here. When Trump wants to throw a military parade or play with the King through unnecessary state visits, the broad consensus is he does so for purposes of personal ego and making himself feel big. It’s hard not to see the Eurovision pitch as just Carney doing much the same.
