    1. >In his Tuesday night victory speech, New York City mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani promised to stand up for transgender people, echoing his campaign promises to make the city a pro-trans “sanctuary city.”

      >“In this moment of political darkness, New York will be the light,” Mamdani said. “Here, we believe in standing up for those we love, whether you are an immigrant, a member of the trans community, one of the many Black women that Donald Trump has fired from a federal job, a single mom still waiting for the cost of groceries to go down, or anyone else with their back against the wall. Your struggle is ours, too.”

      >During his campaign, Mamdani [pledged](https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2025/06/zohran-mamdani-pledged-millions-to-trans-health-care-if-elected-nyc-mayor-he-just-won-a-key-victory/) to spend $57 million on medical centers that provide gender-affirming care and $8 million more to develop new and broader resources. While campaigning, he attended a Trans Day of Visibility rally in March and a trans community town hall in May.

That’s a profile in courage there. Mamdani needs to be the example other Democrats need to follow. Trans rights are human rights, and any person who turns their back on trans people is a full-blown coward. All love to my trans friends across the world! 🏳️‍⚧️

What % of NYC is trans? I’m guessing it’s higher than the nationwide average, but I have no idea by how much.

I’ve been following politics since the 1990s and this is one of the best victory speeches I’ve seen. 2 parts that stood out:

      >So hear me, President Trump, when I say this: to get to any of us, you will have to get through all of us.

I noticed he didn’t finish the sentence with „you will have to get through ME!“, which is how most politicians would have ended the sentence, as if to say, „I will be the one to protect you.“ Instead, he dropped the ego, and phrased it as if we’ll stand up for each other, which speaks to a community he wants to help build.

      >So, Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching, I have four words for you: Turn the volume up.

This works on two levels. One one hand, he’s telling Trump that there are plenty of people who feel voiceless, and want to be heard, and he wants Trump to hear what they have to say. But on another level, it’s an insult to against Trump’s advanced age. It wasn’t direct enough to anger the old people, but the subtext was pretty clear. Not to mention, when he said it, the energy was through the roof! It was a very exciting moment.

    4. Gotta say, the thieves and liars sure do know how to tell liberals what they want to hear.

Compared to Newsom, Mamdani is such a fresh perspective from Democrats that feels sorely needed.

Oh, so this is what it feels like to not be thrown under the bus. I like it!

I’m glad someone is finally standing up for them. Jesus Christ 🤦‍♂️

Ah, so progressives still haven’t learned that dying on the hill of trans rights and identity politics doesn’t work. That’s really dumb.

    9. Compare this to Gavin Newsom, who has refused to sign trans-supportive bills, and said he does not want trans people in sports

Now which of these two has just won in a landslide election, while standing with trans people all the way through…

    10. I was built by the trans community.

I was once dark triad, alone and afraid until college. That was when I met my first trans friend. I had always felt a kinship with strangeness and we became close friends. They showed me Rocky Horror, gave me a big V on my forehead and something began to click.

After all the years of tragedy and ostracization, I finally felt like I had a positive role model.

I hammered out my anger, learned to embrace my tears, and began to truly believe in my smile.

I never lost my „triad“ nature. And there’s only one silly study, but I truly believe in it: Light Triad. Humanism, Kantianism, and Faith in humanity.

I’m now agnostic of high faith. I follow the best of ALL religions, not just my dogmatic upbringing.

I’m the brightest shining star in the room because I know that perfect love casts out fear. Fear is torture. And you know what? Fear is the main tool of fascism.

During these dark times, I’ve been writing ghost stories using the oldest spirits to solve today’s problems.

Only Dr. Frankenfurter could teach me this lesson:

      Don’t Dream It. Be It.

    11. Everything I’ve seen on him give me hope I haven’t had in years. What an amazing person.

    12. This just proves that it’s possible to walk and chew gum at the same time, even in the political arena.

There is absolutely no reason why a politician can’t focus on “kitchen table” issues while also supporting the vulnerable communities that are used by the right to manufacture outrage.
