Russia is loosing this war of attrition badly. They’ve lost almost all of their oil industry, troops and ran out of missiles and drones. Their case is lost. Slava Ukrainee!

Deep State UA’s live mapping service shows that Russian troops already have a foothold in the southwestern part of the city and are advancing through the centre and up the left flank, and that’s only accounting for confirmed areas of control. Most of the city is listed as contested grey zone, so the line of actual control is disputable.
Pokrovsk isn’t being encircled, it is being attacked directly as part of an attempt to encircle Myrnohrad. The distance between the furthest extents of the grey zone on either side of this attempted encirclement is only 3.5km.

They likely dont want an enrcirclement, those are costly and take tremendous manpower since the defenders have no where to go.
By leaving a gap for escape, the Russians solve this problem for themselves. Less men needed, less casualties accrued, less time spend dealing with the stragglers. And the Ukrainian forces who retreat have to do so through a tight corridor with omnipresent Russian ISR.
Then rather then turning around to deal with a large amount of defenders, a majority of the Russian force can turn and chase the Ukrainians untill they hit Ukraine’s next defensive belt.

Throwing random untrained people into war is pure idiocy

Situations pretty bad when it’s 8-1 ratio, not enough FPV operators for all that.

Let’s summarize the situation in Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad at the moment:
1. UA says there is no encirclement. UA claim the situation is critical, but their troops are still fighting.
2. RU says there is an encirclement. They claim they are controlling most of Pokrovsk and what they are doing is cleaning up pockets of resistance rather than fighting on equal footing, and they are calling for surrender of the remaining UA troops.
