I love it that you used kilometers instead of miles🥹

I get 736,545 for Toronto, centered near Dupont and Bathurst Street, which shows the population concentration is essentially downtown, much like SF. Interesting that Chicago is shifted well outside of downtown.
Montreal was similar to Toronto, around 680K, just NE of downtown.
SF is mindblowing with how much they fit in that little ass peninsula

I decided to do a couple cities I know well.
Philadelphia: the best I could do was 552,400 centered on 38th and Walnut. Further west than I expected.
Boston: 546,013 centered on the Hynes Convention Center T stop, also surprisingly far west.
Both cities are bordered by bodies of water to the east, which probably explains the off-centered-ness.

Interesting that the NY circle just misses Yorkville, which is the city subdivision with the highest population density in the country. Wouldn’t have figured the north Bronx would be that much more dense than Astoria, which you’d get if you drew the circle a bit further south. You’d also miss that big chunk of Hudson too.

Chicago one doesn’t make sense. Majority of neighborhoods in that circle are filled with SFH and 3 flats. If the circle was half a mile south it would include all the high rises in River north and west loop

* The circle also contains, 1258 bus stops, 0 tram stops, and 50 metro and train stops.
* Shanghai
* Population: 4,230,631
* The circle also contains, 1029 bus stops, 2 tram stops, and 74 metro and train stops.

Those 4 circles alone almost have the same population as 6 Wyomings

Kind of wild that LA is denser than San Francisco

Hilarious to me that NY is by far the densest despite a significant portion of its circle being in the water.

Where’s the guy from this sub who was whining about SF not being walkable?

San Francisco’s pretty silly since the circle takes up like 4/5 of the city’s area.
