I wonder what the purpose is, since I imagine cave women didn’t exactly lead stress free lives. Hell, while it’s relative, the things we consider “childhood adversity” I feel have been much more common and much worse going back in time.
If this is true and this transfers to cow milk, formula must be very bad since we have horrible factory farming.

I would think that lower distress when faced with limitations could be adaptive? Especially if the distress would otherwise impair function? I looked into the findings a bit more and they’re interesting, and don’t give the impression these epigenetic factors are all negative.
