Maybe we should make work pay so that people can save don’t have to immediately go on to benefits if they can’t work for a short whilst.

The article seems confused; it conflates incapacity benefits, paid by the government to people not in work, with costs incurred by employers due to sick pay, loss of productivity and staff turnover. It also shoehorns NHS spending in there (the NHS spending money on people who are unwell is hardly the revelation of the century.)

Lengthy waits for diagnosis and treatment are going to result in people being out of work who could have worked, or remained in work, had they been seen and treated sooner.

„There were 800,000 more people out of work now than in 2019 due to health conditions,“

Didn’t we have covid and lockdowns since 2019?

    5. Have they tried taking some paracetamol and just getting on with it?

Leading this article with quotes from the employers perspective says it all. It’s all our fault if we’re sick because it costs them.

Then it says young people have mental health issues, and older people have joint pain. So lack of prospects and being worked to a pulp causes a loss in productivity? No shit!

We’re heading into a massive fiscal crisis.

It’s the sum of a whole lot of factors but debt to gdp has increased by 50% in the last 15 years and is going up 5% a year now.

We can’t afford the state we’re running.

The only question is whether anyone has the courage to make a big course change now, or whether the bond markets and IMF will force a huge course change later.

If you’re young you should be mad about this, you will be on the hook for all this debt.

Create a horrible depressing country with shit jobs and pay and a worsening economic outlook, tax rises, hospital waiting lists, no gp appointments then point the finger at everyone and tell them to stop pretending to be depressed. Thanks 👍

    9. How about improving healthcare services???? Hiring more doctors and nurses? No?
