Major disappointment. This issue affects every other issue in one way or another. Solving it would help so many other issues we have.
It seems like people got what they wanted from this budget. Lowering immigration levels and investing billions into housing. The article’s title doesn’t match what’s in the article to prove a point. Garbage ‘reporting’.
Federal’s role in housing is to manage morgage. The actual problem are the provinces and the municipalities who are dragging their feet because you know, bureaucracy.
Housing is a….provincial issue. The red tape starts at the provincial level and trickles down to the local council level.
I somewhat take an issue with this article. The criticisms mostly amount to „not enough“ which is fair, but it’s sold as there being fundamental issues with the policies, as opposed to just. „We wanted X amount of new funding and instead we only get Y amount of new funding.“
They are not fixing the housing crisis because they do not want to. That’s the sign that conservatives should tap every time the libs fail on this issue. They do not want to substantially lower housing prices to the extent necessary, and aren’t even really hiding it. Nothing other than massively reducing demand (Immigration, investment properties) and massively increasing supply will actually make serious progress in this regard. If they actually take steps to do just that, I will eat a page of Mark Carney’s ‚values‘
Ok so there is a huge deficit, they are firing the public service, and the affordable housing is unlikely to come through but… they are getting rid of the tax on private jets and luxury yachts!!!!!
