That’s a terrible idea. Service quality will nosedive and flying will get more expensive, and the companies buying the airports will probably be american, not Canadian.

    2. [There’s a lot of peer reviewed literature suggesting that well implemented airport private ownership plans increase the number of airlines & routes, alongside improving operating incomes and customer satisfaction rates etc. ](https://www.nber.org/digest/20231/privatizing-infrastructure-evidence-airports?page=1&perPage=50)It could be a good avenue for reducing Canadian airport’s dependents on government-imposed airport fees as well as allowing more international air competition etc.

Though I think the main priority should generally be sector liberalization and increasing routes & competition, which is where main improvements towards improving services and lowering consumer prices can be found. We also need to incentivize reforms that make airports less reliant on airport fees to the point where they are either reduced significantly, or in some cases (depending on the type of fee) completely removed.

Privatization works if there is competition…with only one major airport per city this makes no sense. There is no way to challenge the incumbent, therefore there is no incentive to innovate, keep costs low etc

    4. The writing is on the wall, when you have Conservatives defecting to the Liberals. This is about private donors hijacking democracy and lobbying the government.
