I honest to God dont care who, why, or where hoists the Bavarian flag.
I probably wouldn’t bother with it, given it’s been 170 years, but do whatever the hell you want.
Feel free but be aware that nobody in Germany considers you german in any way lol
Well, that’s not the official Bavarian flag, and it would technically be illegal to fly it in Bavaria: it contains the Bavarian coat of arms, the misuse of which constitutes an infraction. However, the authorities don’t really care that much and are in fact happy for members of the public to use the flag in whatever way they want. You’ll often see this flag being flown unofficially.
There are two official Bavarian flags: [the one with the stripes](https://www.bayern.landtag.de/fileadmin/Bilder_Videos_Internet/Streifenflagge_RGB_web.jpg) and [the one with the rhombuses](https://www.bayern.landtag.de/fileadmin/Bilder_Videos_Internet/Rautenflagge_web.jpg).
Of course, you’re in Minnesota, so if it’s appropriate and legal in Minnesota, it’s fine. The thing to watch out for is that while Germans are fine with you acknowledging where your ancestors come from, don’t expect them to regard you as German or Bavarian. 180 years is a *long* time, and if you were born in the US to parents who were born in the US, you’re American.
Also, Germans are likely to cringe a bit if they find you celebrating your German ancestry by drinking German beer, eating „brats“, and dressing up in „traditional“ German garb — especially since the „traditional“ German garb you’re probably now thinking of is specifically garb from the very southernmost part of Bavaria as re-designed by the Nazis. I mean, it’s fine for you to do that in Duluth, just don’t proudly show the photos to Germans and expect applause.
