      How about some lengthy prison sentences for the vultures that are undoing the support to Ukrain we’re all paying for.
      I really dont understand the leniency for companies that support the agressor.

    3. Any chances that they can id the chips to track the source that smuggles them to Russia? The printed date code alone doesn’t say much. Military grade digital chips, CPUs, memories, controllers etc. should have undocumented instructions that return their serial number which would help to pinpoint the source; others might employ other methods (passive RFID in the microwave?) to id them uniquely.

      This is not exactly a tracking/control issue, you can buy these components in consumer quantities and walk through the border. You can even buy them in bulk from AliExpress.

      Do you think they are shocked that their chips -available in AliExpress- are accessible by Russia?

      I can’t find the exact part numbers but the NXP/Nexperia one is probably an RF (communication) chip whereas the STMicro one is some variant of an STM32 microcontroller (guessing from how much development efforts they actually put into this).

      The microcontroller is largely replacable by Chinese alternatives, but used for convenience as STM32-series is super standard (a so called „jellybean“ component).

      NXP has some bleeding edge RF stuff but I don’t think that is necessary for their application, while it does make a difference.

      I would argue that this is borderline impossible to stop without stunting the EU engineering space and perhaps even not necessary to stop; their devices are barely dependent on us and we benefit more than them if this stunts the growth of eastern tech and we invest the profits from this into our military R&D

      TLDR; not feasible to prevent this, the parts have close alternatives and we lack the incentive to do so.
