From what I’ve read those private contractors are all…you guessed it… ex navy personnel.*
If you pay serving members peanuts this is what happens.
Sort out decent wages for these guys and then you wont need to spend double on private contractors.

I heard about a situation recently where a full class of naval engineers were recruited by the private sector directly out of training. The company paid for the break clause in their contract and offered them better pay and conditions.
It’s the government’s fault, sure other countries use 3rd parties to service weapons etc, but the government has kept the Defence Forces and Navy weak on purpose. The issue with recruitment and retention is linked to that and pay & benefits.

US and British army often hire contractors to service weapons.its common enough practice.
Doesn’t change the issue that Irish people that want to join the military.
