Purposely stayed away from this I was more interested in how the survivors were getting on especially the intervening rail employee who was seriously hurt.
From what I understand there was a service user who tried to stall the attacker as well to buy the others time who was already discharged and the rail driver was rock solid for not stopping the train in middle of nowhere but thinking on their feet, I dread to imagine how bad this might had been otherwise even with speedy police response
Just a horrible thing to have happenned.
It’s sad there’s such a racial element to all crimes now so that even the police report it to prevent misinformation. It feels like another Americanisation.
Anyways, hopefully the bloke gets a whole life tariff. No Home Secretary is gonna release this guy.

So on the same day he tried to kill someone in London, travelled back to Peterborough, and then got on another train to London and tried to kill 10 more. I wonder what his backstory is. It would be extremely rare for someone to start behaving like that at 32 with no history of anything.

Love the fact that the racists come out, but don’t mention that the gender of the person is once again male! Regardless of race, crimes like this are generally committed by men. (I know not all men are horrible and I’m not trying to incite anything, but there’s an irony there)

I was wondering in the wake of this – do rail operators have the ability to lock down individual carriages in the case of marauding attacks? *Should* they have the ability to do that to contain attackers if it can be done safely?
The biggest threat direction for successfully carried out mass casualty events is now mental health.
It wouldn’t surprise me at all to learn that this guy had dealings with mental health services in the past.
“Prevent” was set up and seemingly is doing sterling work in preventing mainly Islamic radicalisation. MI5 is foiling multiple group plots a year and since 2017 (I think?) has been 100% successful.
What the government really should announce is huge beefing up of mental health provision, but I don’t think they have the money.
You could argue that isn’t weird we have people advocating for metal detectors at every station entrance, but would be baulk as a society at rethinking treatment in the community for known paranoid schizophrenics? It’s tricky.
Passengers are trapped in enclosed spaces just like in planes. There should be scanners at all train stations.
I pity train station staff at ticket barriers, they are not trained to do anything except to be polite. They shouldn’t be either. They are the equivalent of shelf stackers from supermarkets. So they should be protected just like the public. Scanners can do that.
The fact one of the train station staff became a victim speaks volumes about how broken security within the train network is. This is negligence on the part of the train company imo. He should never have been the one to be proactive. That’s someone elses’s job.
Whenever there is a fare dodger or another rowdy person, it takes 3 to 5 security guards to deal with the issue over an embarrassingly protracted length of time causing huge scenes on trains, plaforms and at the barriers. So the security staff are ineptly trained. So how are they supposed to deal with a maniac?
The only security that seem to know what they are doing are the guys at major central london stations but that’s because they are armed to the teeth.
If this had happened when the train was going the other day, the media would be having a field day about Tube and Train fare dodgers and broken Britain.
So someone on the Nolan show said the guy was screaming at the cops to kill him. So I wonder if we have a suicide by police going on here
