Gut feeling is that people in the US were trying to treat it as an investment vehicle and failed.
Just make them affordable while having enough space to not look like a university dorm room from 30 years ago.
Getting to modular construction would be a huge boost to our economy, but we have to understand why that will be hard.
The problem isn’t economic. Its cultural. Canadians see their homes as a core part of their identity. People visit each others homes far more here. In Sweden and Japan the culture is to see friends at bars and restaurants.
In Canada homes are a stage for personal display. Used to show people how successful you are in life. In Sweden and Japan they are private personal spaces. That makes it easier for people to accept efficient but not flashy home designs.
