What are the Germans doing in West Virginia and the Hondurans doing in Louisiana? And I guess Jamaicans in Connecticut??

I’m actually somewhat surprised you don’t see a lot of East Asian/Southeast Asian groups here, from the Chinese in the West in 1920s to Koreans/Thai/Vietnamese/Philippines today.

    5. This doesn’t seem weird to me. In 2022, people probably still felt a bit weird about flying to a country that refused to comply with what medical experts were saying.

The people who are closest, and have the most reason to want to be here, would of course continue to come here because it’s not just tourism, it’s them trying to live a better life.

In short, to me this makes sense because of the year and because they don’t have to cross an ocean during a pandemic.

    6. It’s whatever country is having economic or political trouble at the time. After the failed 1848 revolutions, a ton of Germans fled to America.

This is interesting. In Washington, West of the Cascades, the majority immigrant population would be from Asia, primarily India and China. The Mexican population in Washington is found East of the Cascades, where all of the farm work is done. This just shows how much we need the Mexican work force in the US, legal or not.

Germans being n1 in WV is fascinating and shows that absolute migration into the state is probably extremely low

I wonder if deliberately sabotaging Mexico’s economy might’ve led to a lot of Mexicans fleeing?

Seeing the Mexican presence across almost the entirety of the US, and to think, Mexicans in Mexico City have the nerve to constantly complain and protest about 20,000 American digital nomads (of all races, including Mexican-Americans) living in a few bougie neighborhoods in a city of over 9 million. LOL.

I’m just curious: has anyone noticed that this sub is constantly filled with content of a certain political bent?
